We’re upfront about costs from the beginning. Our services are charged on a hybrid flat-fee and hourly basis, and our paralegal conducts work on your file where possible to help keep your costs low.

Michael McInnis (he/him) is a lawyer and founder of McInnis Law. He was called to the bar of the Law Society of Alberta in 2025. He is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
Michael is from the Heatherton-Highlands region of Newfoundland, and spent time growing up in Gander. If you have seen the movie Come from Away, you will know that Gander is where all transatlantic flights were redirected when the airspace closed following the 9/11 attacks. Being immersed in this community action showed Michael the power of leading with compassion in situations of stress and conflict.
Michael has experience in family law, wills and estates, child protection, Indigenous governance, civil litigation, and legal drafting. He enjoys preparing vegetarian meals, analog photography, and hanging out with his dog Donut.
Schyler Palm (they/them) is the office manager at McInnis Law. They hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s in Digital Humanities from the University of Alberta, and they are a trained bookkeeper.
Schyler was raised in Edmonton and is of Métis descent. They bring experience as a disability support worker, a crisis-line volunteer, and a writer to their work, which allows them to assist clients with empathy as they navigate complex legal procedures. They are also a wizard at all things scheduling and office administration, which keeps the firm running smoothly.
In their free time, Schyler moonlights as a fiction writer and narrative designer for multimedia projects. They enjoy staying active in the Great Indoors and spending time with their dog, Disa.
